Mercy Johnson has successfully combined her responsibilities as an actress and a wife. In this interview with our reporter she tells the secret.
You seem to have excelled where other actresses have failed combing marriage with your job, what has you’re your secret?
It has been the grace of God. God has actually helped me a lot.
What is that personal attribute of yours which your husband has not stopped talking about since you both got marriage?
My husband has not stopped talking about how down-to-earth I am.
Does this surprise you?
Well, as an actress especially one who is doing well a lot of people don’t expect you to be unassuming.
Has your husband ever told you how he felt when he first saw you?
Yes. For him, love was at first sight.
You have been quoted as saying you cooked for your man the first day you came to his house, is this true?
Yes it is.
A lot of other ladies would have said such would paint you as cheap, don’t you think so?
Well, I didn’t see it that way besides when you have something special with somebody you do things for them.
Can you recount what the experience was like?
At first, I was stunned that a Nigerian man was asking me to enter his kitchen to cook him a meal. What shocked me even more was his response when he I asked him if he was serious.
Did his response offend you?
Rather than take offend me it drew me closer to him. We have been married since 2011 and we love each other to bits till date and have consciously decided to spend the rest of our lives together. As I said earlier, I am an actress who is correcting the rigid stand that actresses cannot have happy homes when they get married. Also, bear in mind that there are several Nigerian actresses like me who are happily married. Having a happy marriage is a choice a woman has to make. When you decide to have a happy marriage, you focus your thoughts, actions, words, work and everything else around protecting that happiness.
