Lekki Killings Live: Amnesty International Speaks On Killings
A human rights group in Nigeria, Amnesty International has reacted to the killings of innocent protesters seeking better governance.
Recall that there had been reports of men of the Nigerian Army killing peaceful protesters at the Lekki Tollgate on Tuesday, October 20.
Speaking during an interview on BBC News, a representative of Amnesty International stated that the body had discovered credible evidence of deaths from the shooting in Lekki.
Amnesty International urged the international community to intervene now, as the situation was becoming worse.
The None Governmental Organisations (NGO)’s representative said that they were happy that individuals such as Hilary Clinton and Joe Bidden, the American Democratic candidate had appealed to President Buhari to prevent the killing of innocent protesters.
This come following a statement by the Governor of Lagos State that no fatality had been been recorded from the shooting at the Lekki Tollgate.
Addressing a media conference, Sanwo-Olu had said:
“Whilst we pray for the swift recovery of the injured, we are comforted that we have not recorded any fatality as against the widespread circulation on social media.”
