Oba Akanbi’s decision to dump the title of Oba which is synonymous with monarch from the Yoruba kingdom for Emir is what is generating attention presently.
According to the man, his decision is based on his intention to emulate the northern Emirs. His word: ”
“I have decided to officially adopt Emir title today because I want to emulate the attitudes of Northern Emirs. They don’t begrudge themselves like Yoruba Obas. It will surprise you to discover that for the past two years, there has not been meeting of Yoruba traditional rulers just because of enmities. There is nothing strange in adopting Emir title. I am the Emir of Yorubaland,” Oluwo said.”
For many, this is just another joke from the man who is fast becoming one of the most controversial monarchs in the South West. Many would remember his fight with the Oni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, where he alleged that the Ojaja ordered his guards to push his away from his walk path.
