Sonia Ekweremadu, the sick daughter of former Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, has revealed that she feels guilty because her parents are in jail because of her.

She shared her thoughts about the circumstances leading to her parents’ arrest in a recent interview with BBC.

Speaking on the condition of her parents in jail, she revealed that they were usually calm when she visits them in jail. She added that things won’t remain the same following her parents’ conviction, adding that she feels guilty because everything happened because of her.

I disagree with my parents

On her kidney condition, she revealed that she has lymphatic syndrome, which means her kidney is small with large holes. She also revealed that she was not involved in the search for a kidney donor, as her family took care of everything.

On why she could not get a donor from within her extended family, she stated that her father’s side were ruled out from donating because they have a history of kidney disease.

Sonia also said she and her parents don’t feel any anger towards the 21-year-old Nigerian man whose testimony led to their imprisonment.

A Central Criminal Court in Old Bailey, UK, sentenced Ekweremadu, to nine years and eight months in prison for organ trafficking. The court also sentenced his wife, Beatrice, to four years and six months jail term.
