Revered lawyer, Femi Falana, has announced himself as the lawyer of Afrobeat musician, Seun Kuti.

Falana offered free legal services for the musician who is currently avoiding arrest by operatives of the Lagos State Police Command after he was spotted in a viral video recorded on Third Mainland Bridge shoving a policeman before eventually slapping him, amidst questions such as are you mad, don’t you know me.

Announcing his services to Kuti, Falana stated that the musician sought his intervention, adding that he had enough evidence to defend himself.

Falana disclosed that the embattled singer would turn himself in today.

“I am his (Seun Kuti’s) lawyer and he has briefed me. He certainly has evidence. This is not the first time he is dealing with the police.

“He (Seun) is going to report himself to the police tomorrow (Monday) morning. There is no problem at all.”

Recall that the Inspector General of Police, (IGP), Usman Alkali Baba had ordered the Commissioner of Police Lagos State to arrest, investigate and prosecute the matter accordingly in court, even as the Police Service Commission (PSC), demanded the immediate prosecution of the musician, saying no one had the right to assault a policeman in uniform and on official duty, no matter the offense committed by a police officer.

PSC Chairman, Dr. Solomon Arase, via a statement issued by the Head, Press and Public Relations, (PSC), Ikechukwu Ani, on Sunday said Kuti’s arraignment would serve as a deterrent to other citizens.

“The commission demands that the culprit must be prosecuted immediately and that the Inspector General must ensure that the matter is followed to its logical conclusion to restore public confidence in the Nigeria Police as the lead agency in internal security and in its ability to maintain law and order and also protect lives and properties.

“We look forward to the prompt prosecution of Seun to act as a deterrent to others of his ilk” Dr. Arase stated.
