Gov. Akpabio and Umana’s Dance of Shame : By Hamid Kowode

The popular saying that those who live in glass house don’t throw stones readily comes to mind, as I think of the face-off between Gov. Godswill Akpabio and his former Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Umana Umana.

Those who remember how Gov. Godswill Akpabio came into office would know that he is not a man who lives by the meaning of his name.

The way he stole the people’s mandate from a certain Frank Okon who purportedly won the election will alway be in the minds of a lot of people, as it was not through God’s will that Akpabio became the Governor of Akwa Ibom State.

Although those who are close to the Chairman of the People Democratic Party ( PDP), Governors Forum will describe him as a pay master and a saint. This is because the man would probably stop at nothing to dilute whatever truth there is to be said about him in any matter of importance. Akpabio, spends the money when he has to and even when he does not need to.

His face-off with his former Secretary to the State Government (SSG) and godfather Umana Umana is only a pointer to his ideology when it comes to his dictatorial tendencies.

However, that Umana feels bad that he is getting this kind of treatment is surprising, after all there is a popular Yoruba saying that goes “the cane used in beating the elder wife is somewhere waiting for the new wife .”

Why has Umana forgotten so hastily how he and the incumbent governor chased Frank Okon out of the state with their money and influence. Have they forgotten how they turned the indigene of the state to an outcast.

Well, Nemesis is what is now hunting the one time Commissioner of Finance, and no body needs to tell him that this is just the start.

That Umana has declared his intention to contest for the governorship position in 2015 in defiance of Governor Godswill Akpabio’s preference is the sign of a war that will see incumbency challenging influence, wealth.

While the battle rages on, one fact is that Umana will contest the 2015 election and with his clout it is likely he will win. However, before the elections come, Umana and Akpabio can continue  their dance of shame, while Okon laughs from his base in America.
