Arrangements are in top gear for the 3rd edition of Copa Lagos Beach Soccer Tournament, Africa’s biggest beach soccer event. The superlative competition will take place on the beachfront of Eko Atlantic City from December 13 to end on December 15, 2013. The event will demonstrate and also lend premium to how sponsors such as FCMB, Eko Atlantic and Cool FM use the positive values of sports as a tool of engagement, youth empowerment and community development.

Sports, from play and physical activity to an organized competitive activity, has historically played an important role in all societies. Sport programs and events can influence the development of social values, behaviors, ethical decision-making skills, andmoral character development.

According to the organizers’ CEO, Samson Adamu of Kinetic Sports, “We see sport as far more than a luxury or a form of entertainment. It is a human right and essential for individuals of all ages to lead healthy and fulfilling lives.”

FCMB has been a supporter of COPA Lagos from its inception.“We appreciate the exceptional quality of the soccer games, and our staff and guests love the music concert, fashion shows and beach parties that all form part of this annual sporting event,” says Ikechukwu Kalu, Group Head, Marketing and Communications, FCMB.

COPA Lagos is part of FCMB and other sponsors’ commitment not just to beach soccer, but to the development of sports on the African continent. In the course of this exciting international tournament, the Super Sand Eagles will be defending their title having previously won the tournament with impressive performances against the likes of beach Soccer giants- Brazil and Portugal. The other countries that will contest Copa Lagos in 2013 are Lebanon, Senegal and first-timers Germany; with each team vowing to outdo each other with their own style of teamwork and skill.

“Sport teaches core values such as co-operation and respect. It teaches you how to work alone and in teams. These are the skills every employer or every entrepreneur is looking for” Kalu said.

“It is a significant economic force providing employment and contributing to local development by bringing individuals, communities and like-minds sponsors together.” Kalu continued.

According to Kalu, “through tournaments such as COPA Lagos FCMB is making every effort to enhance the quality of the beach soccer environment on our continent.”

The banking giant is one of the corporate bodies throwing their weight behind this event and it is confident those who attend, will experience the excitement of world-class beach soccer as well as the other event activation the tournament has to offer. Other sponsors include, Eko Atlantic, Cool FM and the Lagos state government.

Copa Lagos 2013 will be a fusion of the Beach Soccer matches followed by music concerts featuring live performances by some of Nigeria’s foremost artistes and fashion shows.
