FG Announces Plan To Reduce Price Of Petroleum

Published

BMO

The federal governmentt is exploring ways of reducing the price of petroleum by providing alternative petroleum.

If actualised, the new pump price will be between N96 and N97 per litre from it’s current N147

Minister of state for petroleum resources, Timipre Sylva, said the alternative petrol will be provided through Compressed Natural Gas (CNG), explaining that CNG fuel has undergone a pilot project in Benin City where over 10,000 vehicles are already running on it.

The minister made the disclosure while addressing journalists in Abuja on Thursday, January 15.

“If we are thinking of reducing pump price for fuel? I could easily say yes and I’m sure all of you wonder why I am saying that,” he said. “We are thinking of giving the masses an alternative. Today we are all hooked on PMS, what we want to do going forward is to see that we are able to move the masses to CNG.

“CNG unit for unit costs is less than even the subsidised PMS. Per litre the subsidised rate of PMS is N145 per litre, while CNG will cost N95 to N97 per litre that is why I could say we want to reduce the cost of fuel, that way when we are given an alternative Nigerians will not notice when the subsidy on PMS is removed.”

The minister expressed the hope that the petroleum industry bill (PIB) will be passed by the national assembly before May 2020. The CNG is a fuel that can be used in place of gasoline, diesel fuel and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG). ,,,,,Describes Amaechi as a Unifier, Catalyst for National Development

As legal experts, commentators, political watchers, opinion leaders and even laymen continue to make their minds bare on the Supreme Court Judgement of Tuesday, 14 January 2020, which sacked the PDP-led government in Imo State and declared candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Senator Hope Uzodinma, as winner and duly elected governor of the state, a chieftain of the ruling All Progressives Congress and former National Publicity Secretary of the defunct New Peoples Democratic Party (nPDP), Chief Eze Chukwuemeka Eze, has felicitated the new state governor, HE., Senator Hope Uzodinma, the APC family and the entire good people of Imo state over the ruling.

Describing the verdict as one of the best things that has happened to the South East States, the party chief said Imo is set to hive a sigh of relief from the highhandedness and maladministration of the sacked government which had for the few days it held sway, kept the state in the dark and deprived the people meaningful and purposeful governance.

In a statement made available to media houses, Chief Eze said Senator Uzodinma is efficiently equipped with the requisite leadership tools to drive genuine development in Imo state and turn her into a beacon of all possibilities and all that is good for all mankind.

While commending the leadership and members of the All Progressives Congress in Imo state for their peaceful disposition in the face of provocations, especially the illegal overthrow of duly elected local government council chairmen in the state by the ex-PDP government, Chief Eze said God has once again shown that He rules in the affairs of men through the Supreme Court Judgement which added credence and affirmed the claims of  Uzodinma and the All Progressives Congress.

Eze tasked the people of the S’East state to give maximum support to Sen. Uzondinma as he assumes office as the executive governor of Imo state, opining that the APC is ready to turn the state into a development haven.

He counselled those misinterpreting the judgement and misinforming and inciting the public to do themselves some good, by reaching out to copies of the verdict and furnish themselves with the necessary information for proper understanding of the courts reasoning for arriving at the decision, averring that such attitude is unwholesome and contrary to every recognised standards of civilised behaviours, international ethics and decorum.

Eze opines that with IMO and Bayelsa States in APC kitty the dream of taking the South South and South East regions back to the centre is becoming very feasible come 2023. I therefore plead with His Excellency, Senator Hope Uzodinma to discard the idea of any form of probe of the past administrations while pursuing his goal and vision of reconstruction, rehabilitation and recovery but most importantly unite all the Imolites and carry along all sections of the State. Any form of probe will be a distraction to this government as we have to bring smiles to the faces of Imolites as soon as possible.

While hailing the Minister of Transportation, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Amaechi for making the country proud in his uncommon drive for national development, Eze tasked S’South and S’East leaders to unite and project a common front for national integration.
