Erstwhile President of Nigeria, Goodluck Jonathan has finally reacted to the defection speculation that has trailed him for a while.

Before now, Jonathan had not made a categorical statement about his plans for 2023, how there had been speculations that he was being courted by the ruling All Progress Congress (APC) to be their presidential flag bearer in the election.

Addressing the issue of his defection, Jonathan said that it was all a lie, adding that he regards the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as a very friendly party.

He urged the people of Bayelsa State to embrace the party.

According to Jonathan, the rumour that he is planning to defect to the APC to pursue a presidential ambition is a lie.

He affirmed his loyalty to the PDP, describing the party as an organization that carries people along.

Jonathan reportedly spoke at a Thanksgiving Service held to mark the one-year administration of Governor Douye Diri in Bayelsa State.

He said: “PDP has been a very friendly party, I am a member of PDP and I know from the beginning till today, it has been a very friendly party, PDP is a party that carries everybody along and we should extend that at Bayelsa State level, that starts it in Bayelsa State so that all those who are in the political process so that at the end of any political contestation for the governorship or any other office, let us work together for the interest of our people.”

The former president also advised politicians to shun politics of bitterness in the interest of promoting peace and development.
