COVID-19: 12 Dies In 24 Hours As Nigeria Continues Upward Slide

Not less than 12 people died in Nigeria on Friday, January 8 from COVID-19.

This is according to the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC).

The NCDC made this confirmation around midnight on Friday in a tweet on its official Twitter handle.

Based on the tweet and NCDC’s statistic, Nigeria’s COVID-19 death toll rose from 1,330 on Thursday, January 7 to 1, 342 on Friday.

Also, a total of 1,544 cases were confirmed on the day. A total of 739 of the cases were discovered in Lagos while Plateau had 168, Abuja 153, Oyo 91 and Nasarawa got 90 cases to round off the top five states with most infections.

As of Friday, Lagos had 35.7% per cent of the entire confirmed COVID-19 cases recorded nationwide.

The megacity had 34, 785 cases out of a total of 97, 478 to leader the table of infections. The state is followed by the federal capital territory Abuja, which had 13, 224, about half of Lagos’ number of infections.

Kaduna has 5, 752, Plateau 5, 549 while Oyo closed the top five with 4, 248.
