A Kaduna State High Court has sentenced a mother and her son to seven years imprisonment each, with an open of fine to the tune of N150,000.

Oluwayemisi Samuel and her son, Joshua Samuel, were dragged to court by the Kaduna Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, (EFCC) on a one count charge each bordering on false information.

A statement released by the anti-graft agency says Oluwayemisi and Joshua squandered the sum of N5,600,000 on sport betting  and caused a false petition to be sent to the EFCC, alleging that the money was fraudulently withdrawn from their Opay account to a sport betting account without their authorisation by an unknown individual.

When the charges were read to them, mother and child pleaded guilty. In view of their pleas, prosecution counsel N. Salele urged the court to convict them accordingly.

Justice A.A Bello however convicted and sentenced both defendants to 7 years imprisonment each with an option of N 150,000 fine.
