Black Market Sales Of Petrol Witnesses Boom As Scarcity Persist

Black market sellers of petrol in Lagos State have witnessed a massive boom in sales.

This is as distribution of petrol in several states of Nigeria continue to be a major problem, making scarcity of the product more severe.

In Lagos State, the sight of young men and women standing by the roadside offering fuel for sale to motorists at the rate of N1,000 per liter is a common sight, while it is now a norm to find an endless sea of gallons also known as jerry can in fuel stations, with the product selling for as high as N240 per liter.

A black market seller of petrol told www.theoctopusnews.com that to remain in business, he has to wake-up as early as 3:AM going from one fuel station to the other.

The seller who identified himself simply as Moses, said it is natural to move from one station to another within the same vicinity untill he can buy the product. According to Moses, it only makes common sense to sell at an exorbitant rate after going through the stress.

Fuel scarcity persist in states of Nigeria, even as the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited continues to assure that it has enough fuel to last the next 30 days.

NNPC’s executive vice president, downstream, Adeyemi Adetunju, while addressing a press conference on Tuesday, November 29, 2022, in Abuja, blamed the fuel scarcity and long queues at the filling stations on some road projects going on in Lagos.

However, Adetunju, added that loading in it’s deport will be increased, while 24 hours work continues at NNPC depot’s.
