Banker Extraordinaire, Herbert Wigwe Sets Sight On New Horizon

Published

on

Great men are known to seek new challenges when they conquer their primary field.

One man who is on this path is cerebral banker, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Group Managing Director of Access Bank Group, Herbert Wigwe.

Having turned Access Bank, a mere commercial financial institution into a successful giant in Africa and on its way to being a global brand, Wigwe’s place as a master banker is not in doubt.

However, his new interest is in making new and daring leaders, hence the berthing of Wigwe University, an institution of higher learning that would be one of the best in the continent.

The Wigwe University to be cited in the banker’s hometown Isiokpo, Rivers State would boast a 60 per cent local and 40 per cent expatriate faculty population, with about 200 buildings spread over 400 hectares of land.

Also, students of the university would spend one year abroad getting international exposure.

When done, the university would bring economic gains for Isiokpo the host community, even as there would be great infrastructural development as a result of the project.

Partnering countries and neighbouring African nations would also see Isiokpo as a new location for qualitative education saving the country the foreign exchange expended on overseas education.

Known to have excelled exceedingly in the banking industry, why won’t Wigwe succeed in changing the sad narrative of a comatose Nigerian educational system.
