ASSU Suspends Months Long Strike

The 9-month long strike by the Academic Staff Union of University (ASSU), has been suspended.

The strike was suspended on Wednesday, December 23, bringing an end to the industrial action that started in March 2020.

Announcing the suspension of the strike in Abuja, ASUU’s National President, Biodun Ogunyemi, while briefing the union said the strike was “conditionally” suspended.

According to Ogunyemi, the development followed consultations with its National Executive Council (NEC).

Ogunyemi warned that the union would return to another round of strike action if the government fails in meeting its part of the agreement reached with the university lecturers for the strike to be called off. He noted that the reopening of the schools, considering the COVID-19 pandemic, lies with the Federal Government and Senate

Recall that the Federal Government and ASSU have been locked in a ceaseless negotiations for a while with both grandstanding on different occassion.
