Army GOC 6th Division Irefin Dies Of COVID-19

There are unconfirmed reports that General Officer Commanding (GOC) 6th Division, Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Maj-Gen. Johnson Olu Irefin has died.

Irefin reportedly died from complications from coronavirus pandemic.

His death has thrown the Army into mourning. Olu Irefin assumed the command of the division in July after replacing Maj.-Gen. Felix Agugo.

The Army Public Relations Officer (PRO), Maj. Charles Ekeocha, is yet to confirm the incident, though a senior military officer from Abuja reportedly described Irefin’s death as shocking.

The Army officer reportedly said: “One of our fine officers is dead. He is the GOC 6th Division. He died in Abuja after developing complications caused by the coronavirus pandemic.”

Irefin was the immediate-past GOC 81 Division Nigerian Army Lagos before he assumed the command of the 6 Division and land component commander operation Delta Safe, Port Harcourt barracks.
