Arewa groups in the 19 northern states have condemned the ongoing strike action in Kaduna State.

The group, which operates under the aegis of Arewa Initiative for Good Governance, spoke through its convener, Salisu Tanko Wusono, who addressed a press conference in Kaduna on Monday, May 17.

The group also lambasted the leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) for falling prey to the antics of some opposition politicians, whose nefarious project is how to destabilise the state because of their self-induced envy of the achievements of Governor Nasir Elrufai since assumption of the office in 2015.

Wusono, who is also the Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state, described as “irrational and illogical the involvement of electricity, oil and gas and financial institutions in the guise of fighting for Kaduna government employees who are less than 2% of the ten million population of the state.

He, however, wondered why the NLC pretends to be unaware of a more worrisome minimum wage crisis in Taraba and Benue, among other northern states but targeting El-Rufi’s Kaduna through selfish exclusion and possibly political convenience.

He also noted that the involvement of some of the organisations in the strike is “a confirmation of the growing suspicion that some opposition politicians were behind the strike.

He said: “It is absolutely illogical that workers who are either on Federal Government of private organization’s payrolls were being made to take Panadol for some other peoples headache”.

He also recalled that “the same labour leader, Ayuba Wabba, leading the Kaduna strike action has once admitted being unable to pay the minimum wage, citing COVID-19 as the reason.”

The group, according to Hon Wusono, is “appealing to the good people of Kaduna State to advise all workers to return to their duty posts in the Collective interest of all Citizens of the State.”
