Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed has defended Zamfara State Governor, Bello Matawalle for granting amnesty to bandits.

Reacting to the criticisms that Matawalle had been receiving since his action, the minister said those criticising the governor were unfair to him.

The minister stated this while speaking on an interview programme.

He argued that criticising the Zamfara government’s approach would be unfair as each state deals with insecurity differently.

Speaking on state peculiarities in fighting insecurity, he said there are no “one-cap-fits-all solutions” and that the federal government will not dissuade anybody from engaging the bandits.

He said if granting amnesty to one notorious kidnapper is going to give me peace in my state, he said he would take the decision to grant him for the sake of peace.

He urged people to try and understand the high complexity of managing insurgency and banditry and kidnapping.
