A post shared on X by Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser (SA) to President Bola Tinubu on Information and Strategy, has been described as fake news by netizens.

Onanuga had taken to X formerly known as Twitter to share a story credited to Bloomberg with title “American Express Credit Cards to be issued in Nigeria”.

In the story shared by Onanuga, Bloomberg noted that American Express Credit Cards Co. is launching its first business credit card in Nigeria in partnership with local neobank O3 Capital, potentially improving access to dollars in the country.

It also noted that O3 Capital and Amex unveiled the product on Thursday in Lagos, the commercial capital, offering the business card with a spending limit of $10,000 and a repayment period of up to 45 days for international transactions.

However, the story was criticised by those who felt the SA was misleading Nigerians.

MikaelCBernard, a netizen with the handle Broda Bernerd was first to react to the post, adding that Access Bank had been issuing Amex credit cards for over a year now.

According to him, Onanuga’s information was erroneous and would soon be deleted.
