America Inaugurates 46th President, As Joe Biden Steps In

Senator Joe Biden will be sworn in as US President today, as he takes over from Donald Trump.

Biden will take his oath of office along with Vice-President-elect Kamala Harris.

The whole of Washington DC has been under serious security by a combined team of police and the National Guard amid fears of civil unrest.

Some 25,000 troops will guard the inauguration ceremony after a deadly riot at the Capitol earlier in the month.

Biden will be sworn in as 46th president of the United States by Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts shortly before midday outside the US Capitol.

The ceremony will be with out typical traditional event synonymous with inaugurations due to COVID-19.

Attending the innuaguration are three former presidents namely Barack Obama, Bill Clinton and George W Bush.

Also attending is the event is outgoing Vice-President Mike Pence .

After being sworn in, Vice-President-elect Harris will be sworn in, becoming the first woman and the first black and Asian-American elevated to serve in a role just a step before the presidency.

The event will witness musical performances from Lady Gaga. She will be singing the National Anthem as the duo of Jennifer Lopez and Garth Brooks will also be performing.

An evening concert at the Lincoln Memorial in the city will be hosted by Tom Hanks and include Bruce Springsteen, John Legend, Jon Bon Jovi, Justin Timberlake, and Demi Lovato.
