There is anxiety in some homes in Lagos as it has been discovered that bags of rice being distributed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in the state, Jimi Agbaje, are either expired or of sub-standard quality.

It was gathered that in its bid to worm their way into the hearts of Lagosians and secure their votes, Agbaje and the PDP have been distributing bags of rice to Lagos residents.

Investigation revealed that there is dearth of rice in Iddo and Daleko markets with the PDP leadership buying every bag of rice on offer for onward distribution among Lagosians.

The distribution has been taking place in various areas of Lagos: Maryland, Ikorodu, Iyana Ipaja, Agege, Ipaja, Ayobo, Ajegunle, Amukoko and Mushin among others with the distribution taking place in the campaign offices of the various candidates of the party in Lagos.

Close sources revealed that most of the bags of rice being distributed have been in store for almost three years.

“Most of the rice being distributed now have been abandoned in warehouses of the sellers for more than three years. They are bags of expired rice,” an importer of rice told this medium on Wednesday, 25th March, 2015.

According to our source, an Indian company supplied the rice into Nigeria three years ago and they were discovered to be of sub-standard hence they were abandoned in the warehouses. “When the PDP leadership and Agbaje came demanding for rice, the expired bags were released to them when the ones in the market did not meet their demand. Yet they are still coming for more,” our source said.
