An order for the prosecution of anyone found with illegal arms has been given by the presidency.

The presidency gave the order following an all time rise in activities of criminals who pose as herdsmen around the country, especially in southwest Nigeria.

In an interview, on Tuesday, February 9, Femi Adesina, a presdiential media aide to President Muhammadu Buhari, said there is zero-tolerance for violence and terrorism.

According to him, President Buhari’s stand on the issue of persons considered as killer herdsmen is that anyone found with illegal arms should be arrested and tried.

Adesina stated this while responding to claims by Governor Samuel Ortom that the president has maintained silence on the menace caused by the herders.

Adesina said: “If the Governor would say he hasn’t heard the President speak on that matter, that’s what he should make clear; it’s not that the President hasn’t spoken.

“Because the number of times the President has spoken on that issue . . . and his position has always been the same: anybody, whoever he is, that carries arms unlawfully should be arrested and prosecuted. The President has said it countless times.”
