6th AFRIMA: Burna Boy, Wizkid Lead Nigerian Winners

Lovers of good music were thrilled to a night of musical bliss as the 6th edition of the All Africa Music Award (AFRIMA), climaxed on Saturday, November 23.

The award ceremony held at the Eko Convention Centre of Eko Hotels and Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos, Nigeria maxed out with a colourful show.

Grammy Nomination

The Nigerian winning contingent was led by the duo of Burna Boy and Wizkid.

Burna Boy defeated Davido, Kizz Daniel, Wizkid, King Promise, Salif Keita, Shatta Wale, Sidiki Diabate, and DJ Arafat to emerge the Best Male Artist in Western Africa with the song ‘Ye’.

Tiwa Savage walked away with the award for the Best Female Artist in West Africa category defeating Aya Nakamura, Simi, Jossey, Kanvee Adams, Teni, Manamba Kante, Yemi Alade, MzVee, and Niniola.

The Artist of the Year in Africa category was won by Burna Boy with the song ‘Gbona’. The self-acclaimed African Giant defeated nominees such as Aminux, Daphne, Davido, Diamond Platnumz, Nasty C, Prince Kaybee, Tamer Hosny and Wizkid.

2Baba picked the award for Best Artist, Duo or Group in African Contemporary category defeating Adil Assil, Fally Ipupa, Kerozen, Kizz Daniel, Mbosso, Salatiel, Salif Keita, Sjava, Tamy Moyo and Tiwa Savage.

Best African DJ category was won by DJ Spinall who defeated Black Coffee and David Guetta, DJ Africano, DJ Maphorisa, DJ Raybel, DJ Moh Green, DJ Neptune, DJ Tunez, DJ Zinhle, and RJ The DJ.

Other winners included Nigeria’s fast-rising star, Joeboy who won the category for Best Artiste, Duo or Group in African Pop defeating stars such as Diamond Platnumz, Fireboy DML, Magasco, Mlindo the Vocalist, Rema, Skiibii, Vanessa Mdee, Wax Dey, Yann’Sine. Kel P also went home with the award for Producer of the Year in Africa. The beatmaker defeated Mace, Nasty C, Prince Kaybee, S2Kizzy, Salatiel, Sarz, Shizzi, TH Productions, and Vusi Nova.

Wizkid capped the winnings for Nigerian artistes with the Song of the Year in Africa category. He picked the award for the category with the song titled ‘Fever’ defeating Prince Kaybee, Davido & Chris Brown, Lokote, Naseny Leh, Burna Boy, Nasty C, Tetema and Umama.
