Ahead of the 2023 presidential election, selected governors of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), are set to meet with former President Goodluck Jonathan and ex-vice president, Atiku Abubakar.

According to a report, they are scheduled to meet to harmonise issues of the 2023 presidential ticket.

Political sources revealed that the meeting was called to resolve the zoning issue before it causes a crisis in the party.

Jonathan and Atiku will have a say about which region the PDP 2023 presidential ticket should be zoned to.

PDP chieftains have raised concerns over the defection of some governors and other prominent party leaders, adding that more might cross to the ruling party if the matter is not resolved.

Governor Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto State would also be sought out for his opinion on the zoning issue.

Other high-profile delegates who will also have a say are Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers state, ex-governor Rabiu Musa Kwakwanso among others.

A source who spoke on the planned meeting said that: “Quick resolution of whether the party should zone its presidential ticket or not will go a long way in determining where the next national chairman should also emerge from.

“These are issues needing prompt decision and our leaders are not moving fast enough on the matter. But the party belongs to all of us and we all must be ready to make sacrifices for its survival. 2023 is closer than we think, and PDP must make hay while it is still sunny.”
