The past editions of Gidi Fest have boasted of a lot of entertainment, proper planning and organisation. Though the rain disrupted the 2017 edition for a while, it was still successful.

Topmost on the bill of the organisers of the annual event is plum entertainment with A-list stars.

The 2018 edition of the show which held on Friday, March 30th at the Hardrock Café, however didn’t live up to expectation, as there is a trail of criticism since the festival.

In a year where the festival was sponsored by popular beverage, Pepsi, many had high expectations, but they were dashed by Eclipse Live, organisers of the show.

Asides the delay in the kickoff of the festival which the organisers blamed on technical hitches caused by rain, the high cost of Pepsi at the venue of the event attracted a lot of criticism. While Pepsi sold for N 100 outside the venue, attendees at of the 2018 Gidi Fest, had to cough out N 500 for two bottles.

With Pepsi as a major sponsor, this was indeed a bitter pill to swallow for a lot of people who had expected to be treated to free bottles of the drink or at worse buy it at retail rate.

Asides this, fans of Gidi Fest who had gotten used to the normal venue at Eko Atlantic had a parking nightmare. Having paid N1000 for parking per car, they had to pay another N500 to be returned to the venue of the event, a very short distance.

The show itself didn’t end without grumbles and mumbles, as a lot of attendees concluded Eclipse Live had not only disappointed them, but also exploited them.

While the 2018 Gidi Fest had failed to impress, guests were comforted with performances from artistes such as Mayorkun Tay Iwar, YCee and Brymo.

Other artistes who performed at the event included 2BabaEfya, Adekunle Gold, Tiwa Savage and Wizkid.

While acknowledging their performances, Juke Box couldn’t help asking if the DJ was not well paid, as he quickly packed up his set after Wizkid’s performance. Maybe he just couldn’t wait to get out of the 2018 Gidi Fest.
