Why Buhari Didn’t Speak About Lekki Massacre-Femi Adesina

The reason why President Muhammadu Buhari didn’t speak on the Lekki massacre during his national broadcast of Tuesday, October 22, has been revealed.

According to the presidency, the President’s silence on the issue was because an investigation on the issue is ongoing.

This was revealed on Friday, October 23, by the media aide to the president on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, during a live show on Channel TV.

Recall that the president addressed the nation on Thursday, October 22, but shockingly maintained sealed lips on the alleged killing of protesters by the operatives of the Nigerian Army at the Lekki toll gate in Lagos.

Defending the President, Adesina said Buhari’s silence on the attack was because the matter is still being probed by the top military command.

He noted that Lagos State has also set up a judiciary panel on the incident, adding that Buhari will speak after the conclusion of the investigation.

In his words: “The Defence Headquarters issued a statement to say that it was investigating the matter. Lagos State Governor has also set up a probe panel to investigate what really happened.

“So, the President couldn’t have said anything because it would be premature and presumptuous while the investigation is ongoing. It is after the investigation has been concluded that he can speak on the matter.”
