Tinubu Approves Ambassadors, High Commissioners To 65 Countries

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointments of 65 Nigerian ambassadors and high commissioners to various countries and international organizations.

The disclosure was made on Friday by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.

According to Onanuga, the appointments include 31 career diplomats and 34 non-career envoys.

Among the high-profile non-career appointments, former presidential aide Reno Omokri was appointed ambassador to Mexico, while former Aviation Minister Femi Fani-Kayode was named ambassador to Germany.

Also, a former Minister of Health, Isaac Folorunso Adewole was appointed ambassador to Canada, while former Chief of Army Staff Abdulrahman Bello Dambazau was appointed to China.

Others include former Lagos Deputy Governor Olufemi Pedro who was posted to Australia, former intelligence chief Ayodele Oke to France, and Jimoh Ibrahim designated as Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations.

Also on the ambassadorial list is Lateef Kayode Are appointed as ambassador to the United States, Ita Enang will serve in South Africa, and former Abia State Governor Okezie Ikpeazu has been posted to Spain.

President Tinubu also approved postings for career diplomats to a broad range of missions worldwide, including Ghana, Egypt, India, Belgium, Switzerland, Morocco, Senegal, Iran, and Thailand.

The statement confirmed that the Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs has already received formal diplomatic approval from the United Kingdom for High Commissioner-designate Aminu Dalhatu. Similarly, France has approved the appointment of Ambassador Ayo Oke. The Ministry has submitted the nominations of the remaining envoys to their host countries and is awaiting the necessary diplomatic clearances in line with international protocols.

President Tinubu has instructed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to begin an induction program for all ambassadors-designate and high commissioners immediately, ahead of their deployment.
