A former Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Alaibe is no man of little means, as his pockets are indeed deep.
Asides financial weight, Alaibe has the network of men of influence and decision-makers in Nigeria.
But there are times when these virtues are just not enough to secure a man his dreams.
Alaibe realised this recently when his long-time ambition of becoming the governor of Bayelsa State hit the rock with the emergence of Douye Diri, as the winner of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) gubernatorial election primary in Bayelsa State.
Alaibe, who was considered a favourtite to win the election, was defeated by Diri, a senator representing Bayelsa Central in an election which saw the senator scoring 561 votes to Alaibe’s 365.
Indeed, the office of the first citizen of Bayelsa State remains elusive to Alaibe.
