Clout and relevance are attributes required to excel in any political space.
Indeed, both are qualities possessed by Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, Nigeria’s Minister of Interior.
Over the years, Aregbesola has silently grown a powerful political group which has progressed within the flanks of the All Progressive Congress (APC).
So powerful has the group become that it has produced several topnotch politicians who have sprang to enviable heights.
Knees have been bent and heads bowed to get one favour or the other from its latest patron Aregbesola.
Aregbesola’s clout in the group was however reaped from its root recently with the cancellation of all political groups in the Lagos All Progressive Congress (APC).
A directive from the party leadership regarding the unity of the party being threatened rendered the clout of its patron almost useless.
