Ahead of the 2027 general election, hundreds of supporters from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the All Progressives Congress (APC), and the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) in Katsina State have officially decamped to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

The members of the parties were led into the ADC by Mustapha Inuwa, the coalition leader in the state.

The announcement was made during the unveiling of the Katsina State chapter of the ADC, held at the Continental Event Center, Katsina, on Sunday, July 13. Membership cards were distributed to the new entrants, comprising men and women from all 34 Local Government Areas of the state.

Addressing the gathering, Lawal Batagarawa, the National Representative of the National Political Coalition Group in Katsina, lamented the state of the nation under President Bola Tinubu’s administration. “The rise in insecurity, poverty, inflation, and the depreciation of the Naira value is staggering,” he said. “A lot of industries have collapsed since the inception of Bola Tinubu’s administration in 2023.”

Batagarawa called for unity among party members and supporters, adding, “The party will win to fight terrorism, banditry, poverty, and illiteracy in the country.”

Chairman of the ADC in Katsina, Usman Musa Wamba, expressed confidence in the party’s prospects in the 2027 general elections. “We will do well,” he said, while urging young voters and the wider electorate to support the party in order to enjoy the dividends of democracy.

Among those who decamped was Aliyu Saulawa, a former APC card-carrying member and Director of Media for the Buhari Campaign Organisation, who also served as the National Coordinator of the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Movement. He declared his disappointment in the ruling party, saying, “The APC has failed woefully in its campaign promises made to the people, especially in the North.”

“The party has not achieved even one percent of what it campaigned for in the recent elections. Without security, there is nothing like livelihood, and if you look at the Northwest, we are peasant farmers and merchants, and definitely, if we lack security, we virtually lack everything, including the educational system that is collapsed. Honestly, I cannot continue to remain in APC,” he continued.

In a separate development, the Katsina State chapter of the PDP, led by its 2023 governorship candidate, Yakubu Lado, held a state expanded caucus meeting themed “Let’s Make Katsina State Work Again,” at the party’s headquarters.

Lado said the meeting aimed to dispel rumours about the decline of the PDP in Katsina. “PDP structure is still alive in Katsina State. We have a message to give you to give it to your people out there,” he stated.

He attributed the party’s loss in the 2023 elections to the actions of its former leader. “The existence of the former leader of the party in Katsina was responsible for our defeat in the 2023 General Elections because most people were not happy with his attitude. Everyone knows about the antecedents of PDP over the years,” Lado said.
