Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has disclaimed a fake AI-generated video circulating on social media promoting a fictitious poverty alleviation scheme.

The video, featuring a cloned voice of the Group CEO of Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, Bayo Bashir Ojulari, was disclaimed in a statement by NNPCL’s Chief Corporate Communications Officer, Olufemi Soneye.
In the statement, Soneye clarified that NNPCL has no such investment initiative and urged the public to disregard the video, originally shared by an account named Mensageiro de Cristo on Facebook.
The statement dated 29th May 2025, also warned the perpetrators to cease their fraudulent actions or face legal consequences.
This is not the first time that scammers would be promoting fake schemes involving NNPCL. In 2016, a fake recruitment was posted on Facebook by a user. The scam was later disowned by the organisation.
