NNPC Confirms Pipeline Explosion in Delta, Activates Emergency Response

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd.) has confirmed an explosion on one of its gas pipelines near the Tebijor, Okpele and Ikpopo communities in Gbaramatu Kingdom, Delta State.

The incident, which occurred at about 5:50 p.m. on Wednesday, December 10, 2025, involved an NNPC Gas Infrastructure Company (NGIC) pipeline. According to the company, initial checks showed a sudden pressure drop consistent with a loss of containment.

In a statement issued by Andy Odeh, Chief Corporate Communications Officer of NNPC Ltd., on Thursday in Abuja, NNPC said the exact cause of the explosion is yet to be determined, noting that a full investigation has been launched.

“Our priority at this time is the safety of nearby communities and the protection of the environment,” the company stated.

Emergency response protocols have been activated, with NNPC working closely with relevant authorities and community leaders to contain the situation and mitigate further impact.

The company reiterated its commitment to maintaining the highest safety and environmental standards, adding that further updates will be provided as more confirmed information becomes available.
