A petition reportedly filed with the Department of State Services (DSS) by Nigeria’s Minister of Power, Bayo Adelabu, against the leader of INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church, Primate Elijah Ayodele, has continued to generate widespread reactions across social media and public discourse.

In the petition sighted on some media platforms (excluding www.theoctopusnews.com), Adelabu alleged that Primate Ayodele requested N150 million from him in the course of spiritual consultations related to his governorship ambition in Oyo State. The minister claimed that the cleric asked him to procure 1,000 trumpets for prayers.

Reacting to the allegation in a statement issued by his media aide, Osho Oluwatosin, Primate Ayodele denied requesting money from the minister. He stated that he neither asked Adelabu to give him cash nor indicated that the trumpets were for his personal use. According to the cleric, his communication with the minister was strictly spiritual advice, which required Adelabu to personally procure the materials if he chose to proceed.

The prophet further explained that text messages exchanged between both parties showed that he advised the minister to purchase the items himself. He added that it was Adelabu who requested assistance in determining the cost of the trumpets, a development he said led to the N150 million figure being mentioned.

Following the emergence of the petition, many Nigerians have taken to social media platforms to question the rationale behind the complaint, noting that the minister reportedly initiated contact with the cleric. Some commentators expressed concern that a private consultation had escalated into a formal security petition.

Critics have also described the development as a sign of political desperation, linking it to Adelabu’s renewed interest in contesting for the governorship of Oyo State after previous unsuccessful attempts.

One social media user, Folashade Adetola, criticised the minister’s actions, accusing him of neglecting his official responsibilities.

“I think Bayo Adelabu has so much time on his hands despite the epileptic nature of our power supply. He is clearly a busybody who has abandoned his primary duty to involve himself in battles that won’t lead him anywhere other than destruction. He is just too desperate,” she wrote.

Another commenter, Johnson Akinawo, praised Primate Ayodele for not allowing the engagement to progress to a financial transaction, while expressing distrust in the minister’s actions.

“What Adelabu has done has exposed him more than Primate Ayodele. It shows he cannot be trusted with power. Thank God no money was sent, and none was requested,” he stated.

Similarly, Afolabi Nureni described the situation as self-inflicted damage, suggesting that the minister had inadvertently exposed his private dealings to the public.

“This is self-sabotage. He has exposed himself to Nigerians, party leaders, religious figures, and even the President. It simply shows desperation for power,” Nureni said.

A political analyst, Kareem Ajani, also weighed in, stating that the petition could negatively affect Adelabu’s political future. According to him, the request for musical instruments should not have escalated into a security matter.

“If he was uncomfortable with the request, he could have simply ignored it. Turning it into a petition was unnecessary and politically damaging,” Ajani said, adding that the development could further isolate the minister politically.

Meanwhile, Primate Ayodele has continued to make public statements and prophecies on national and regional issues, including recent comments on political developments in the Republic of Benin.
