Viagem Energy Services Ltd has reacted to a viral media report titled “Businessman threatens N10b lawsuit over wanted notice by Police.”

In the reaction, Viagem Energy described the report as misleading and calculated to sway public opinion in favour of suspects Babafemi Fagite, Raymond Akintayo, and Charles Obisike.

In a rebuttal made available to journalists in Enugu, on Monday, signed by Fortunatus Osuagwu and sighted by The Octopus News, the Business Intelligence & Financial Adviser of Viagem Energy explained that the publication failed to accurately report the facts of the case.

“We expect the media to investigate, interrogate, and report accurately in accordance with its solemn responsibility, rather than taking falsehood from one side and reporting to the public,” Osuagwu said.
Viagem Energy explained that the case is an active investigation by the IGP Monitoring Team, triggered by a petition filed in January 2025, regarding an alleged kidnapping and attempted assassination operation planned by the suspects.

Viagem Energy claimed the suspects, who are also defendants in the case, forged ownership documents and fraudulently sold three brand-new 1MW Gas Plants leased to Cabota Energy Services Limited.
The suspects’ actions, Viagem Energy insisted were not just limited to theft, but also involved a well-orchestrated plan to eliminate one of the complainants.
“When the complainants began searching for their Gas Plants, a well-orchestrated plan was hatched to eliminate one of them. To execute this plan, the suspects arranged and kidnapped him in Lagos, blindfolded and handcuffed him, and checked him into an Air Peace flight to Abuja where they had concluded plans to assassinate him,” Osuagwu stated.
Despite the suspects’ attempts to intimidate and silence the complainants, the company revealed that the IGP Monitoring Unit has been diligent in its investigation.
According to the statement, the unit, led by CSP Laraba, DSP Kuyembo, ASP Jimmy Danny, and ASP Gado, has expended significant resources tracking the activities and whereabouts of the suspects and their co-conspirators for months.
The firm noted that after several months of police invitation of the suspects to appear and answer questions on their individual involvement in the accusations, then police approached a Federal High Court in Abuja, that granted its reliefs declaring the suspects wanted persons.
“On the 29th day of July, 2025, the Federal High Court, Abuja, in Suit No: FHC/ABJ/CS/1426/2025 between IGP and Obisike Charles Uche, Akintayo Raymond, and FagiteBabafemi, granted the reliefs of the Nigerian Police Force, declaring these suspects wanted persons,” Osuagwu said.
The company, however, commended the officers of the IGP Monitoring Unit for their dedication to the case, noting that the suspects have been on the run since January 31, 2025. “Rather than submit themselves to the Police for investigation, they have chosen through their counsel (who is also a suspect) to question the legal process and cast aspersions on the character of dedicated officers they could not compromise.”
In a related development, the IGP Monitoring Unit has recovered the stolen Gas Plants at the Water Facility of the Enugu State Government, operated by Fedikore Limited, the firm revealed.
The recovery, according to the statement is a testament to the unit’s commitment to justice and underscores the need for the public to support law enforcement agencies in their efforts to combat crime.
