MTN Nigeria Kicks Off Pilot Test On 5G Network

MTN Nigeria has commenced a pilot test for it’s 5G network.
This disclosure was made by the company in a statement sent to the Nigeria Exchange Limited on Wednesday, August 24.
The pilot is expected to lead to the commercial launch of the network.
A statement signed by the Company’s Secretary, Uto Ukpahah, said that the next-generation technology infrastructure will be tested in anticipation for a commercial launch in areas such as Lagos, Port Harcourt, Owerri, Abuja, Ibadan, Kano and Maiduguri, adding that people with a particular enabled device in the network areas will be able to enjoy the service.
According to the statement, the new technology will extend the capacity and reach of MTN Nigeria data in Nigeria, thus encouraging more speed and lower latency.
“Every major technological evolution redefines what is possible-changing the way we live and the way we connect. MTN Nigeria has been at the fore of every leap in telecommunications: from GSM to 2G, 3G, and 4G. 5G has the potential to change everything, it will allow us to connect, create, collaborate, and compete in ways we have not even began to image,” Adia Sowho, Chief Marketing Officer, MTN Nigeria said.
MTN Nigeria is one of the two companies that won the 5G license bid in Nigeria, however the network has attracted negativity with Nigerians complaining about its safety, while there have also been growing global concern about the 5G network.
