Portugal international and Liverpool FC striker, Diogo Jota is dead.
Jota, 28, died along with his brother in a traffic accident, reports Marca.
According to Marca, the accident occurred on the A-52 motorway, at kilometre 65, close to the municipality of Palacios de Sanabria in Zamora province in Spain.
The Spanish sports paper reported that the footballer who was born in 1996 died at the scene of the accident.
Confirming the report, Italian sports journalist and football transfers expert, Fabrizio Romano wrote on his X handle, “Liverpool striker Diogo Jota and his brother have both passed away due to traffic accident, reports Marca.
“Deepest condolences, support, and thoughts are with those involved, his family and loved ones.
“May his soul rest in peace.”
The footballer’s death has thrown the football community into mourning.
As a Liverpool player, he made over 180 appearances, winning the Premier League, FA Cup, and Carabao Cup, and played in the 2022 Champions League final.
Internationally, Jota earned nearly 50 caps for Portugal, featuring at Euro 2022 and Euro 2024, and winning the Nations League twice with his country.
