The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has heeded the call by the House of Representatives to extend the deadline for voter registration.

Recall that the House of Representatives mandated INEC to extend the voter registration exercise followed a motion by the Chairman, House Committee on Media and Public Affairs, Hon. Benjamin Kalu, who represents Bende Federal Constituency of Abia State.

The lower lawmaking house had last Wednesday urged INEC to extend the deadline for the continuous voter registration by an extra 60 days from June 30, 2022, to enable more Nigerians to register.

Rep Aisha Duku, Chairman, House Committee on INEC, confirmed INEC’S position while addressing the House on the outcome of its meeting with INEC during plenary on Wednesday in Abuja.

According to INEC, the ongoing CVR will now be extended by 60 days.

The Committee held a meeting with INEC yesterday (Tuesday), and they agreed to extend the CVR; all our resolutions were approved,” Duku said.
