Iyabo Obasanjo has stated that she didn’t need the support of her father to join the All Progressive Congress (APC), adding that she is almost sixty years old.

The former Senator and daughter of Olusegun Obasanjo stated this during an interview monitored on Channels Tv on Friday, March 6.

Speaking during the programme, Obasanjo, who noted that she enjoys a lot of goodwill in Ogun State, revealed that joining the APC was a personal journey for her.

“At my age, my friends who have both parents are very few, so I consider myself lucky to still have both my father and mother alive. I don’t think that at this stage of my career, I should be consulting them for everything regarding my career move.”

On her campaign ideology, the Epidemiologist stated that it would be hinged on goodwill, an attribute she said she enjoys in Ogun State.

Obasanjo, who noted that she would be funding her campaign from her savings, revealed that she is ready to risk her savings, adding that if she loses the election, she has some other savings and fifteen years of working left, opining that she would go back to work.

Also, she noted that when people are closer to retirement, they have a catche of money and it is easier to cash out.

Recall that Obasanjo recently declared her ambition to contest the 2027 Ogun State gubernatorial election. According to her, her decision to run for governor was driven by governance gaps in the state and a desire to improve living conditions for residents.

Despite structural and financial constraints on her part, she expressed confidence in her chances, saying thay she is certain of victory.

Obasanjo, who recently returned to partisan politics after about 15 years noted that public service has always been rooted in personal conviction. She said she hopes that, if elected, her administration would positively affect residents across the state, either directly or indirectly.

“The position I’m going to run for is governor, and I believe it fits the skills I bring to the table. As Ogun citizens, I hope that when I’m governor, I will touch your life either directly or indirectly in a way that will improve your lives,” she said.
