Former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), John Oyegun, has officially joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Oyegun made the move on Tuesday in Benin, Edo State, where he was handed his membership card by Kennedy Odion, the ADC’s state chairman.
Odion praised Oyegun’s political acumen and history of building coalitions, stating, “He has put together what is called a coalition before, and he succeeded. So, in mathematics, once you understand the formula, the answer is in view.”
Oyegun, who led the APC from 2014 to 2018, said he chose the ADC after a thorough evaluation of potential platforms, having consulted with multiple political parties.
“We talked to a lot of parties, about seven. Up till the very last minute… At the end of our meeting, we still came back,” he said. “I said, ‘Yes, what you ask us to do, we’ve done… but we have not seen a party as dedicated as the ADC.’”
He criticised the current APC-led government for rising insecurity and hunger, citing the situation in Benue and other states as examples of deteriorating conditions.
Oyegun also expressed concern about what he described as growing national divisions under President Bola Tinubu’s administration, asserting that the ADC-led coalition is working to change the direction of governance in the country.
“From a month ago, you were just ADC. Today, one can say we are the largest party in this nation,” Oyegun said. “We are growing by the day, by the week, by the month. ADC is now a mix of the best of the PDP and the APC. More are still coming on the way.”
