Edo 2020: SDP Woo Governor Godwin Obaseki

There might be light in the tunnel of Governor Godwin Obaseki.
Following his disqualification from contesting the All Progressive Congress (APC), gubernatorial primary, the Social Democratic Party (SDP) has indicated it’s intention to accommodate Governor Obaseki on its platform.
Recall Governor Obaseki was disqualified from contesting the primary by the national working committees of the APC.
According to Honourable Collins Oreruan, Edo State chairman of SDP, the party was trying to see the possibility of convincing the Edo State number one citizen to be its party flagbearer ahead of the election in November if his chance of contesting under his party failed.
He said: “We have just risen from a meeting, where we listened to the press conference presided by Adams Oshiomhole, the national chairman of APC. The decision of the ruling APC has not been made official, though. We hope to reach out to Obaseki as soon as the coast is clear, on the possibility of coming onboard our platform.”
Hon. Oreruan stated that there won’t be crisis in the party due to the development.
He said that the party had an understanding with the aspirants abinitio and there would be no cause for concern since everybody would be carried along.
“The aspirants are aware of our plan. We already have an understanding of them before this time. You know that elections are capital intensive, especially governorship election. They would not have a problem with any decision we take concerning getting Obaseki to come to contest on SDP platform,” he said.
