Customs Intercept $8m At Lagos Airport

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) Airport Command has intercepted $8,065,615 at the the Murtala Muhammed International Airport.

This was revealed by the NCS Comptroller-General, Hameed Ali, on Tuesday,  February 4.

Speaking at a press conference, Ali revealed that the cash was stashed inside a car ready to be loaded into an aircraft.

Ali said the vehicle belongs to the Nigerian Aviation Handling Company (NAHCO) and that its driver and a NAHCO employee have been arrested.

The Customs boss said the money was wrapped in large brown envelopes with the names of would-be owners, adding that no bank has claimed ownership of the money since it was seized.

However, he did not reveal the aircraft that was meant to transport the money.
