Dr. Ope Banwo has reacted to a comment made by Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser on Information and Strategy to President Bola Tinubu.

Bayo Onanuga
Responding to a question on how the 38 kidnapped students were rescued, Onanuga was quoted as saying that no ransom was paid. According to him, the DSS and military simply called the bandits, and they released the girls to them.

In a video released from his base in America, Banwo questioned the rationale behind Onanuga’s comment, adding that a thinking person would never have said that to a nation—except if he believes he is addressing fools.
Banwo, who noted that Onanuga was doing his job, added that he must do better because he is not addressing “retards.” He argued that if it was possible to simply call bandits and ask them to release the girls without any gunfire or ransom, then why are other kidnapped victims still in captivity? He added that if it were truly that easy, why is the President not on the phone every minute calling bandits to release kidnapped victims?
The founder of Naija Lives Matter (NLM), who acknowledged that it is Onanuga’s job to defend the government, wondered why he is treating Nigerians like people who cannot think—people who are retarded. He urged Onanuga to respect the intelligence of Nigerians, adding that if it is that easy to get some kidnapped victims out, then why can’t the government secure the release of everyone still in captivity.
