Africa Gospel Film Project Launched to Train New Generation of Christian Filmmakers

Published

Gospel Cinema International has announced the launch of the Africa Gospel Film Project (AGFP), a multi-year training and film production initiative aimed at equipping African Christian filmmakers with professional skills, spiritual grounding, and access to global distribution opportunities.

The initiative seeks to address the underrepresentation of African faith-based films in global markets, despite the continent being home to more than 600 million Christians. Through targeted training and high-quality content production, AGFP aims to strengthen Africa’s Christian film ecosystem and position it for international relevance.

The project will commence with a six-day Immersive Filmmaking and Spiritual Formation Programme, scheduled for April 13–18, 2026, in Nigeria. This will be followed later in the year by the production of an eight-episode faith-based television series.

Speaking on the vision behind the project, President of Gospel Cinema International, Bright Wonder Obasi, described film as a powerful tool for shaping culture and belief systems.

“Film is one of the most influential forces shaping culture today,” Obasi said. “The Africa Gospel Film Project is not just about producing movies; it is about raising storytellers who combine creative excellence with spiritual responsibility.”

According to the organisers, AGFP will focus on professional training across key filmmaking disciplines, including screenwriting, directing, cinematography, editing, producing, and acting. Participants will also undergo structured spiritual formation and mentorship, while gaining opportunities for collaborative production and international distribution.

Gospel Cinema International is a faith-driven film development organisation dedicated to training, producing, and distributing Christian films that inspire faith and influence culture globally.
