Society Queen, Kemi Nelson Bows Out

The social scene has suffered a massive loss with the death of socialite, Chief (Mrs) Kemi Nelson.

Popular as the South-West women leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), late Nelson was beyound that, as she was also one of the most celebrated socialites in South-West of Nigeria.

While the impact of a socialite is not measured by the number of parties thrown or celebrated, Nelson rocked some of the best parties and threw countless. Her signature headgear was peculiar to only her, and as such a sight of the headgear at the party meant that she was in attendance.

At a point, the woman took a break from the scene only to return years after and in a bigger way. However, with her demise, the curtain has eventually dropped on the former Executive Director of Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF), who died on Sunday, July 17, 2022, at the age of 66 after a prolonged illness.

Born on February 9, 1956, Nelson was educated in Ijebu, Lagos, and Ibadan. She got married to a retired Director of the Federal Ministry of Internal Affairs, Adeyemi Nelson, in 1987 and had three children.

Asides from her life as a politician, she was also named the Yeye Oge of Lagos State as a result of her sense of fashion and how she enjoyed the good life.

The Commissioner for Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation during Tinubu’s tenure as Lagos State governor was appointed to NSITF by President Buhari in 2019, a position she held until May 2021.

Till her death, Nelson was the only female member of the Lagos State Governor’s Advisory Council (GAC). Indeed, the social scene will miss her.
