Amnesty International Report, Defence Headquarters Reacts

The Nigerian Army has reacted to a report by Amnesty International claiming that old people were killed by the Armed Forces when they raid Boko Haram controlled villages.

The military reacted to the position on Wednesday, December 9, accusing the international organisation of blackmail.

It also noted that the organisation’s recent report does not meet the universal academic criteria and may not be credible.

Recall that Amnesty International revealed the extent to which insurgency in the northeast region had affected the lives of older people.

According to the organisation, many of these old people have met difficult fate as they are mostly killed due to their inability to run when terrorists attack them.

Reacting to the publication, Major General John Enenche, coordinator Defence Media Operations (DMO) said there were contractions in the report.

In a statement publsihed on the social media handles of the force, Enenche said the research did not have the justifiable percentage of sample in the population claimed to have been investigated. He went on to cite instances of contradictions in the report which he stated isn’t true and tends to criminalize the Nigerian military.

Further, Enenche said that the report is a deliberate attempt to discredit the Nigerian military in the fight against insurgency and terrorism which should be resisted.
