Kehinde, one of the brothers of slain Olafunke Olakunrin, daughter of Pa Reuben Fasoranti, has revealed how his sister was shot dead.

The son of the Afenifere leader narrated how the incident occurred stating that his sister’s vehicle was ambushed around Ore town on her way to Lagos after visiting their father.

According to him, his sister was hit by a bullet when they tried to escape and died after she was rushed to the hospital. He said;

“I just came back to Akure with my sister’s body tonight from Ore town. She was on her way to Lagos after she left baba (Pa Rebeun Fasoranti) house Friday morning.  Her vehicle was ambushed around Ore town. The gunmen started shooting at them at the Ore expressway and the driver had to quickly turn back but unknown to him there were some of them in the bush along the other side of the road.

“They shot at the tyres of the SUV she was travelling in along with other persons. There were five people in the car, a driver, herself, a cook and two of her nephews. Sadly, she was hit by a bullet and was rushed to a hospital but she lost too much blood and she died minutes after.

“By the time the police would respond, about 30 minutes later, the gunmen had gone back into the bush. They ran after hearing the sound of the patrol van. Nobody was kidnapped inside her own vehicle. Although, those who were wounded were rushed to a hospital and have been checked by doctors and they are fine.”

Kehind’s clarification of the incident comes after a statement by the Presidency stating that the attack was carried out by armed robbers.

Since the statement, the Presidency has come under heavy criticisms with some people saying that such attacks are becoming too much.

Meanwhile, the spokesman for Afenifere, Yinka Odumakin had earlier stated that the 58-year-old woman was shot by ‘herdsmen’.

According to Odumakin, Olakunrin died as a result of bullets from the gun of  Fulani herdsmen who shot her at Ore.

“She was coming from Akure when the armed Fulani herdsmen came from the bush to attack her and other vehicles. Her domestic staff in the car with her also sustained gunshots. This is one death too many and a clear we-can-take-it-no-more death.”

Olufunke is the second child of 94-year-old Fasoranti to die. The elder statesman had also lost a daughter, Bunmi, some years ago
