All Noise No Spark: About Akinwunmi Ambode’s Much Talked About Return

For a while now, two major topics have been echoing among members of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

While the biggest of these is the 8th National Convention holding at the Eagle Square, Abuja, on March 27 and 28, 2026, another issue that has refused to fade even by the principle of shelf life is the return of former Lagos State governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, to politics.

Having seen his political career cut short, with his party offering him just one term in office, Ambode retreated into his cocoon, embracing the suburban life of Epe, an outskirt town in Lagos State.

He stayed away from the news, and social life became almost an abomination to him. All of this followed an incident in which operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) reportedly attempted to whisk him away from the sanctuary of his home.

But all of that now seems like a distant memory, as Ambode appears to have rediscovered himself. The once docile man has found his way back into the good books of those who once frowned at the mention of his name.

These days, Ambode is fast becoming a familiar face among APC stalwarts, even though his moves remain calculated and measured. And although the man widely speculated to be a potential candidate of the APC in the Lagos State gubernatorial race has yet to make any categorical statement, he continues to hobnob and make appearances at party gatherings hoping, perhaps, that as the rumour mill churns, the tides of fortune will favour him as 2027 approaches.
