Ambassadorial List

‎Dr. Ope Banwo, has described Nigeria’s newly unveiled ambassadorial list as a “cabinet of curiosities,” highlighting what he called the controversial profiles and political transformations of several nominees.

‎In his reaction to the appointments by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Banwo pointed to a number of high-profile figures whose past actions and shifting political positions have sparked public debate.

‎Among those he referenced was former presidential aide Reno Omokri, whom he described as a vocal political actor known for intense online engagements and dramatic shifts in allegiance.

‎Banwo also cited former Aviation Minister Femi Fani-Kayode, noting his long history of political realignments and high-profile controversies, including past legal battles and public confrontations.

‎He further mentioned the appointments of businessman and senator Jimoh Ibrahim, whose career has been marked by corporate disputes and political resilience, as well as former intelligence chief Ayodele Oke, linked to the widely reported Ikoyi cash discovery.

‎Banwo argued that the inclusion of such figures reflects the unpredictable nature of Nigerian politics, where past controversies do not necessarily preclude future appointments.

‎He described the list as “colorful” and layered with political irony, suggesting that the appointments blurs the line between governance and political theatre.

‎“The same individuals who once dominated headlines for controversies are now expected to represent Nigeria’s image abroad,” he said.

‎Despite his criticism, Banwo acknowledged that some nominees could still rise to the occasion and perform effectively in their roles.

‎He, however, maintained that the overall composition of the list raises important questions about the country’s diplomatic direction and the message it sends to the international community.

‎The self-acclaimed Mayor of Fadeyi noted that the development underscores the evolving and often unpredictable dynamics of Nigeria’s political landscape.
