The Presidency has explained the resignation of the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun from office.
Egbetokun, turned in his resignation letter on Tuesday, February 24, citing personal family reasons.
This comes barely a year after President Bola Ahmed Tinubu extended his tenure by a year.

Reacting to the resignation presidential spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga, said, “A statement will be issued later in the day to this effect.
“Egbetokun resigned today. He was not sacked, ” Onanuga said.
Egbetokun was appointed as the 22nd Inspector-General of Police on June 19, 2023, at the age of 53.
His appointment was confirmed by the Nigeria Police Council on October 31, 2023.
He was due for retirement on September 4, 2024, upon attaining the mandatory retirement age of 60.

However, the National Assembly amended the Police Act, allowing him to serve his full four-year term unless removed by the President.
The former IGP has since been replaced by Tunde Disu who was recently promoted to Assistant Inspector General.
