Guinness, the Official Beer Partner of the Premier League, recently turned Abuja into a hub of football excitement as it hosted a high-energy live viewing experience designed to unite fans and celebrate the sport’s vibrant culture in Nigeria.
The event took place at Papiee’s Meatro along the Jahi Expressway, where thousands of football lovers gathered for an immersive communal experience. Supporters, clad in the colours of Arsenal, Liverpool, and Chelsea, filled the venue, creating an atmosphere charged with anticipation, rivalry, and shared passion for the game.

At the centre of the excitement was the highly anticipated Premier League clash between Chelsea and Arsenal at Stamford Bridge. As the match unfolded, the venue came alive with roaring cheers, groans of frustration at missed chances, and friendly banter among rival supporters, capturing the raw emotion that defines football fandom.

The event, branded as the Guinness MatchDay, was conceived as more than a traditional viewing party. According to the company, it represents a strategic initiative aimed at strengthening Guinness’s long-standing connection with football while reinforcing its presence within Nigeria’s social and entertainment culture.
Speaking on the initiative, Yinka Bakare, Marketing and Innovations Director at Guinness Nigeria Plc, said the MatchDay platform was created to deliver a premium football experience for Nigerian fans.
“Guinness, as the Official Beer of the Premier League, created the Guinness MatchDay platform to deliver an elevated football viewing experience for Nigerians. It’s about bringing fans together to celebrate the game with energy, community, and, of course, the bold taste of Guinness,” Bakare said.
The Abuja activation builds on a legacy of successful fan-engagement initiatives under the Guinness MatchDay banner. Over the years, the brand has hosted some of Nigeria’s most memorable football viewing experiences through strategic collaborations with broadcast and telecommunications partners. Earlier this year, Guinness also brought the Premier League Trophy to Lagos and Enugu, giving thousands of fans the rare opportunity to see and interact with the iconic silverware.
