Popular Nigerian singer, 2Face, has reflected on the success of his 2004 monster hit song, “African Queen”.
According to him, the song is both a blessing and a burden, as it has now overshadowed his entire catalogue.

2Face, whose real name is Innocent Idibia, noted that while the song came with enormous success, it also brought unexpected pressure.

“African Queen has been a huge blessing, and e come turn to problem join for me,” 2Face is quoted to have said.
Further, he added that the song now sets a constant standard for him, as he feels trapped by it. “It served as a yardstick to my other works,” he said.

Furthermore, the “Amaka” singer revealed that the success of the song means that his subsequent songs are always compared against it, making him feel his work must live up to “that one hit.”
The pressure, he said, limits creative freedom. He also stated that though “African Queen” will always matter, his creative journey is more than that one song.
